Did you know that the First “Greeting Cards” Were New Year’s Wishes
While we associate cards with Christmas, New Year’s greetings actually came first.
- Ancient Roots: In ancient China, people exchanged messages of goodwill on paper to celebrate the New Year.
- The Woodcut Revolution: In 15th-century Germany, some of the earliest recorded European greeting cards were New Year’s cards printed using woodcuts. They were considered luxury items for the elite until the printing press made them accessible to everyone.
